An architectural dimension of human rights

a

Can architecture respond concretely to the disparity of rights and dignity?

The genesis of this thesis starts from the consideration of the homeless immigrant and Gypsy population neglected in Milan.

The aim of the work was to join the political processes to become an instrument of the city and to help in the management of the population in difficulty.

These people, not being provided with primary services, lived in undignified housing conditions.

With the councilor for social policies of the municipality of Milan, the agreed intervention takes the form of an area of primary services reusing abandoned areas.

Circular design/ design for disassembling

The complete system is composed of modular elements such as the roofing, functional (containers) and floor modules, that have the capacity to work also independently.

The functional modules used are commercially available prefabricated reusable containers, which can be easily transformed and assigned different functions. They can be aggregate regarding the specific needs.

When the use phase is over the intervention can be subject to multiple actions:
1) disassembly and possible repositioning with the consequent restoration of the site as in the beginning or the object may be converted into other services for citizenship
2) The modules can also have a new functional life independently
